Imparting Coaching Knowledge

In this theme, the coach enriches the learning environment by sharing their own relevant athletic experience, coaching knowledge, and professional coaching development in order to relate to, empathize with, and/or inspire the adult athletes. The following points may be used by coaches to think about how this applies in their practice:

  • Identify to your adult athletes how your own sport experience bears on the information that you share with them  
  • Share information from your own professional coaching development with your adult athletes
  • Bring in information to your adult athletes that you have picked up in your sport experiences elsewhere (i.e., outside of your current program or club)
